Daytona International Speedway ... The World Center of Racing

In 1947, the Daytona International Speedway served as the launching pad for the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), founded by competitive racer and businessman Bill France Sr. and a group of fellow race promoters.

Today, the speedway plays home to the headquarters of America's premier stock car racing organization - NASCAR - and is most famously known around the world for hosting the "Great American Race" ... the Daytona 500.

The Daytona International Speedway - a 2.5 mile tri-oval superspeedway - actually has nine major weekends of racing activity throughout the year. In fact, because of all the racing activities and speedway attractions that occur throughout the year at the Daytona International Speedway, the speedway has earned the well-deserved title of "The World Center of Racing".

Daytona 500 ... The Great American Race

The internationally famous Daytona 500 is the most prestigious race in the world of stock car racing. Highly regarded as the "Great American Race", the Daytona 500 is considered the "Super Bowl of Racing" by diehard stock car fans and NASCAR drivers.

To give you an idea of just how important the Daytona 500 is in the world of North American stock car racing, the significance of the “Great American Race” could be compared to the popularity of other great sporting events.

For example, consider that ...

  • The Daytona 500 is to stock car racing what the Indy 500 is to open wheel racing.
  • The Daytona 500 is to stock car racing what the Super Bowl is to football.
  • The Daytona 500 is to stock car racing what the World Series is to baseball.
  • The Daytona 500 is to stock car racing what the World Cup is to soccer.
  • The Daytona 500 is to stock car racing what the Wimbledon is to tennis.
  • The Daytona 500 is to stock car racing what the Master’s is to golf.

Okay, okay ... you get the idea!

Basically, the Daytona 500 is the most important race ... the most prestigious race... the richest race ... on the Sprint Cup schedule.

Enough said.
