The Las Vegas Motor Speedway ranks popular among fans and drivers for more than just it's close proximity to the world famous Las Vegas Strip.
The reason is that the Las Vegas Speedway - aka LVMS - is just a small part of the big picture. Sprawling across 1600 acres of desert land, you will find one of the most complete auto racing complexes in existence.
Of course, at the heart of the complex is the 1.5 mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway which hosts major racing events for all three of NASCAR's Elite Series. However, the complex also includes:
Road courses,
A three-eights mile oval track,
A dirt track, and
A state-of-the-art drag racing facility.
With all of these different avenues of racing, the auto racing complex collectively known as the Las Vegas Motor Speedway definitely deserves the nickname The Diamond in the Desert.
Day Trip #1: The Las Vegas Strip
Sin City and auto racing ... Living the dream at the Las Vegas Speedway.
If you are planning on attending one of the major races held at the LVMS, you may well want to consider adding a few days onto your vacation time prior to the race weekend so you can venture just a few miles south to the world famous Mecca of casino entertainment ... The Las Vegas Strip.
Known around the world for high-rise casinos and high stakes gambling, the Strip offers much more than just the opportunity to win big money.
For those of you who don't like to gamble, the Vegas Strip still presents many opportunities of fun for the whole family with entertaining shows ranging from world class magicians to death-defying circus acts to some of the biggest names in comedy and music.
And, who knows, you might just see more than a few sightings of the King of Rock N Roll himself.
If the bright lights and excitement of the Las Vegas Strip just doesn't appeal to you, two of America's most popular tourist attractions are just a short drive away.
One of America's greatest civil engineering marvels - The Hoover Dam - sits just a little over 30 miles southeast of the Las Vegas speedway and attracts over 1 million tourists every year with millions more driving across the Dam.
Built during the Great Depression, the Dam serves as a testament to America's resilience to move forward with monolithic projects even during the most economically depressed period of U.S. history.
To say the least, you will be totally in awe of this monstrous monument to American ingenuity and will no doubt walk away with memories that will last you and your family or friends a lifetime.
Day Trip #3: The Grand Canyon
While the Hoover Dam is one of the greatest engineering wonders created by mankind, the other tourist attraction that will take your breath away is one of Nature's greatest wonders - the Grand Canyon.
You will be no less than amazed with the magnificent beauty of this natural wonder created the Colorado river over a period of six million years.
The Grand Canyon is so awe-inspiring and breath-taking that even the most skeptical agnostic cannot help but acknowledge that there is a Divine Creator.
And whether you view the Grand Canyon for the first time or the hundredth time, one thing you can be sure of is that you will never grow dull to viewing it's immense size and divine beauty.
Although it is not as close to the Las Vegas Speedway, you and your family or friends can still make a day trip out of visiting the Grand Canyon.
Many tourist companies offer bus tours from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon but if you have your own transportation - like an RV, for example - you and your fellow race fans may want to consider spending a couple of days visiting the Grand Canyon.
