Buying Race Tickets ... Must Know Info

Okay! So you're ready to go to your first race tickets?

With so many options, you have so many questions:

  • Which race should I go to?
  • Where should I buy race tickets? How do I know I'm getting the best deal?
  • Where do I stay?
  • What scheduled speedway events, if any, will I attend besides the main event?
  • How do I purchase tickets directly from a speedway?

Which race should I go to?

Sometimes you can find a great deal on tickets and travel packages by using a ticket broker but you must be very careful when buying from a third party source.

Warning ...

DO NOT let yourself become a victim like the hundreds of naive fans every year who buy their race tickets from a third party ticket broker only to discover that the tickets they purchased are either not authentic or that they could have bought the same tickets at a much cheaper price by purchasing the tickets directly from the track ticket office.

Usually, you will receive the best price deal by ordering the tickets directly from the speedway where you will be attending a race.

However, if you're not going to be camping in the parking sections of the speedway, a great source of excellent deals for travel packages are hotels located near the speedway. Oftentimes, you will find travel packages that include some of the following extra amenities:

  • 2 to 3 night hotel room accommodations
  • Round-trip motor coach transportation to and from the speedway
  • Round-trip motor coach transportation to and from local tourist attractions (for example, a wine tour of local vineyards or a day trip to the local zoo)
  • Shuttle service to and from the local airport
  • Nine holes of golf at local golf course
  • Complimentary deluxe continental breakfast
  • Welcome gifts including items like official track pass holders, a track tote bag, earplugs, beverage sleeves, etc.
  • And much, much more!

Of course, remember when you look at travel packages to keep in mind the old rule that you get what you pay for.

If a race weekend travel package directly from a hotel comes across as little pricey you need to carefully consider your options outside of a travel package.

For example, if the travel package doesn't include transportation to and from the speedway on race day, then you will have to take a taxi or rent a limo.As you know, paying for a taxi or renting a limo are never a cheap proposition.

So, when you consider a travel package definitely take into account the convenience and cost-effectiveness that it will provide against the alternatives.

Where Do I Stay? The Speedway or a Hotel?

Whichever speedway you decide to attend a race, one thing is for sure ...

Book your accommodations as soon as possible!

Obviously, nothing beats the tailgating atmosphere that you'll experience if you camp on the grounds of the speedway.

However, if you don't have a RV or camping gear or have a friend that lives near the speedway, you'll need to get hotel room accommodations.

The best advice on hotel accommodations is to book your rooms early...

    The sooner, the better.

Hotels near the most popular speedways, like the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Daytona International Speedwayare often completely booked a year prior to race day. So don't hesitate and book your rooms well in advance of race day.

What speedway events, if any, will I attend?

All speedways have events happening during the race weekend that lead up to the main event. From concerts to minor league races, the entertainment opportunities at the speedway alone are enough to keep you busy all weekend.

So you'll need to decide before buying race tickets if you are going to attend all the speedways activities or just the main event.

Visit the official website of the speedway you have the most interest in to learn about it's particular events throughout the race weekend. Then while you are on the speedway website, you can purchase tickets and travel packages directly from the speedway if you wish.

How do I purchase race tickets directly from a speedway?

You can visit the official website of the speedway where you plan to attend a race.

You can view seating charts, get tailgating information and other important details before purchasing your race tickets on the website or if you prefer to talk to someone you can call the phone number listed on the website for the track ticket office.
